"Bullying"

Ever since the reign of man, as far as I know, there have been people who feel they are inferior to others. Some people even push others around to establish this inferiorness. These people are commonly known as bullies. I cannot think of any personal acts of bullying, but a bully tried to push me around after school when I was in kindergarten. Then one day a silent kid, who I had never heard speak in my life, helped me solve my problem.

After school each day my brother and I would walk to my aunt's house after school. We would wait there until my mom picked us up after work. There was one quiet kid who would walk behind us a ways, and another kid who would walk the same direction on the other side of the street. Every day was the exact same thing. We all walked the same direction and in the same way. Nothing ever went wrong for a long time, and I'm not sure what sparked the kid, but then one day he snapped.

In the process of walking home one day, the kid across the street said something very rude to me for no particular reason. I don't recall ever even making eye contact with the kid until that day. I had never even heard him speak until then. As a result of my efforts of drowning hime out, he became even angrier. He started to yell things at me that I had never heard a kid say before. I don't recall what he had said to me that day, but I do remember how I was feeling as he continued to taunt me. I remember him crossing the street toward me, and my brother telling me to walk faster. I also remember being scared. I thought, what could I have done to provoke this behavior. I felt helpless myself and my last option was to run. I thought about just taking off, but he was older than me and I knew he would catch me in no time. Then all at once it seemed an angel stepped to my side.

Although my savior was human, he bailed me out none the less. The older boy who had followed me home day after day was standing between me and the bully. The bully was surprised at first, then he scowled at the older boy and walked toward him. The boy met him half way and told him to walk away. The bully didn't say anything but he did back away. The older boy looked back at me and told me to go home. As I walked, I could hear the older boy talking loudly and questioning the bully about his actions. At that moment I felt a great love for the boy who went out of his way for my sake. After that the bully nor the older boy never said another word to me, but I still saw the both of them walking home from school every day.

As a result of someone's act of kindness, I was comforted with the feeling of safety. Being bullied is an awful feeling, and I feel badly for any person who endures it. My hope for them is that they never give up and they go out and make a name for themselves. I personally think bullies are looking for satisfaction with themselves and pushing others around is how they get it. In my case somebody stood up for me, but who will stand up for every other defenseless child out in the world. It has to start with each individual person standing up for what they believe is right. More likely than not, someone will stand with you. You never know, but you might even save some kid's life.
