The fact is bullying is becoming a serious problem in schools across America. However, people don't really understand all of the aspects of bullying and why it occurs.

People generally think of bullies as being large, obnoxious, and intimidating. What they don't realize it that it is usually the most insecure kids that bully others. The ones with problems at home, or are for some other reason emotionally unstable, are the ones that feel the need to put others down. Bullying is sometimes a cry for attention.

Bullies think that they look cool or tough because they make fun of others. They feel the need to hurt other people because then they think they'll get respect. Unfortunately, the plan usually backfires. They don't get respect. Instead, everyone becomes afraid of them and tries to avoid them. They aren't able to make many friends, and this doesn't help their emotional insecurities.

Bullies generally never think about the effects that bullying could have on their victims. Their victims could become scarred for life, or extremely uncomfortable with themselves due to unpleasant childhood experiences involving bullying. Many psychological problems could stem from past bullying experiences.

However, despite all of these problems involving bullying, there is not enough being done to prevent it. There are certainly guidance counselors talking to students about bullying, but most kids won't want to listen to them. This country's schools really need a more effective way to deal with bullies.

As a solution to bullying, famous, influential people need to talk to kids about bullying others. Kids are more likely to listen to their role models about things like this. These influential people need to stress the fact that everyone has feelings, and that no one wants to be ridiculed or singled out. Everyone wants to belong and be accepted amongst his or her peers.

Overall, people need to truly understand bullying and why it occurs. They need to understand the mindset of bullies and the state of their emotional health. Also, people need to find different approaches to end bullying in American schools. By helping America's children, we will help America's future.
