"Cursive Names"

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me is an old saying that does not hold true meaning. At our school and probably others, the kids in Math Counts and Chess Club get called geeks, the smart ones who don't put down their teachers are teachers' pets, and the overweight kids are called fat. The kids who love computers are nerds, the ones who love drawing and Yugeo are weird, and the popular kids are the ones who give every group their names. Mainly, they are the bullies.

The popular students say "How can we be bullies if we don't physically hit anyone?" I'd know why they are bullies for I'm a victim, physically and verbally. You can even be bullied in band. That is the worst class for me because a kid who plays drums likes me, but he always hits me with his sticks. I ask him to stop but he says he's joking around, but the bruises on my body from it tell me it isn't joking around.

I've been treated pretty well considering the other poor souls. For example, this new kid calls another kid curse words, geek, and even steals and hides his things. I think that is an awful thing, and most of it happens in the cafeteria.

The cafeteria is a room where rumors or phrases about unpopular kids start. The room is full of conversations about kids behind their backs. There are rumors about people's best friends, lies from one to another, and now since we are in middle school, break ups from boyfriends and girlfriends. Whenever someone breaks up with someone, they say things behind the other person's back or verbally bully them.

People are so bullied by appearance, even when there is a beautiful person inside. For popular kids, it's the opposite meaning -- pretty on the outside and ugly on the inside. The popular kids think they have an advantage to bully us around just because of their looks. I think that they act that way to stay on top, so they can't be bullied or pushed around. That's how I feel about the bullying problems we have in school.

Bullies are age old, but maybe somehow scientists or someone can help with this problem. A quote on a church billboard says, "Kind words is the kind of way to go." Maybe if people spread this around school instead of rumors and bad names, then maybe it would help with our bully problem. So I think kind words is the way to go!!
