"Just using them as much as possible. The more you use these,
the better and more used to them you get. For instance, if I just
keep my self-control and patience while standing in the lunch line
for ten minutes, then I will start to get better at it. Eventually
after 8 years of that, you get the hang of it and it is just what
you always do. So in other words, the more you practice responsibility,
cooperation, tolerance, patience and self-control, the better you
get at them and the more you use them, until it just seems natural
for you to do it."
14-year-old female, Logan-Hocking Middle School, Logan, Ohio
"Usually there are just a few words I'll remember from Project
Wisdom; I try to keep them in my mind, and oftentimes I end up using
them!"

"By thinking before I speak and knowing what is right and wrong.
I know that some people in my school drink alcohol, take drugs,
and bully people. But I know that I don't have to be that way if
I don't want to. I have a choice. If I see someone walking down
the hall by themselves,l I have the choice I could bully them or
make their day by walking with them."
12-year-old female student, Park Middle School, Kennewick,
Washington "Everyday I look in the mirror and tell myself I
live in a beautiful place, and I am a beautiful person, and I make
a difference in the world so I need to set a very good example."
11-year-old female student, James E. Bazzel Middle School,

"When I get angry about a disagreement, I usually ask to go
to the restroom. Then I count back from 10 to 1 and when I calm
down, I try to use the other students decision and my own to try
to find a way to agree. At home, I help my parents and sister with
chores to make their day a little easier."
14-year-old female student, Valentine Middle School, Valentine,
Nebraska
"I pay attention to how I treat others because I want to be
treated the same way. I also have a very short temper, but I have
learned to control it and I talk about my problems instead of fighting.
I am always honest to everyone, and I have a major patience level
because I work with other people all of the time. Cooperation is
also a big thing for me. I feel that I cooperate well since I am
a peer tutor."
14-year-old female student, McKinley Jr. High, Chicago, Illinois
"If someone tells me that they want to fight someone, I just
tell them don't handle it like that. Violence is not the answer.
There is more than one way to solve a problem. Just be the bigger
person and walk away."
