Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "The time is always ripe
for doing the right thing." And what is the right thing to do?
The right thing to do is the ethical thing to do. In other words,
doing the right thing means acting with character. Caring and ethical
students do not commit violent acts at school.
Kids with character live by a personal code of conduct. Their code
of conduct includes the values of respect, responsibility, kindness,
honesty and fairness. A student who acts respectfully and responsibly,
who is kind, fair and honest is a student who is helps create a
safe and caring school climate.
Character Education is all about teaching students to know about,
care about, and act upon core ethical values like the ones mentioned
above. In your essay, discuss why you think it's important that
the students on your campus learn what it means to be a person of
character.
In 1,000 words or less, describe ways that you think character
education could reduce violence on our school campuses.
